Boys In War

How cool is that! The official Boys In War trailer is on!
Boys In War is a movie directed and produced by Didier Konings, one of my Awesome classmates. I wrote part of the script and did some background acting.

Didier spent years to get this project this far, and I think it's paying off. Stuff's really looking good. You guys 'd better be excited to see the actual film! I know I am.

Talk about mixed feelings...

Click the image to experience its full-size impact.
It's all true. Yesterday evening a sort-of-classmate died. He was in the same year, doing the same course, yet he was in another class. I didn't know him too well, but seeing as he was the same age as me, it was a real blow.
Then that E-mail came in. It just could happen that when I've graduated, I can start at a job. Nothing is certain yet, except that the other party sounded quite enthousiastic. I'll let you know when there's more to talk about on this subject.

Tribute

Reasonably Clever, the (in my opinion) best LEGO-based Webcomic out there, recently turned four. Ok, recently is kind of a stretch, but think with me here.
Anyway, to celebrate this fact, I've made the above fancomic. The strip takes place somewhere between episodes 21 and 22. The strip isn't entirely accurate though, Luka wasn't drunk (yet) at that time and Whiskey wasn't drinking beer, but who cares.

On another note: A new blog background is coming up. I've some Unfinished Business to attend to first, but after that, approximately middle December, it's the first thing I'm gonna work on. Promised. Oh, and after that I'll go and try for a new Sapopera episode.
Stay tuned!

Sapopera Blog!

Just so you guys know, Sapopera has it's own blog! From now on you can find all episodes here.
This was something I meant to do from the start, but thanks to the wonderful redesign of Blogger, couldn't get done. Now, after some html copypasting and editing, here it is! Enjoy!
It's in Dutch btw. After all (and surprising absolutely no-one), most of Sapopera's audience will probably be Dutch anyway...

Look at mah...

...Goblins. Two of 'em. I once created them for some story I wanted to draw, but never did. But seeing as it has been a while since I last posted something not-Sapopera-related and as it's been even longer since I last used my Cintiq, I felt like drawing these guys again. I might add a background later, but until now I couldn't come up with anything good to put there. Might be continued...

The Return of the Fruit

And there it is. Episode 3.

I'm so glad this came out so well. This is probably the most boring part of the series, but I couldn't leave it out. Too much character build-up is happening here to simply skip the scene.

Next episode so much more is gonna happen! Oh and finally no-one will get angry then. Also nice to know. Allright, that's it for the spoilers for next episode, especially since I can't tell exactly when that one will air. There'll be a lot of internship-related action going on for the next coupla weeks, so that's really gonna cut in the time I can spend on Sapopera. We're still gonna continue though, don't you worry!

EDIT: I took episode 3 down again. For some reason it would stop loading somewhere halfway the movie...

EDIT2: And it's up again. It still stops somewhere halfway. I suppose YouTube is having problems. Everything else seems to work fine...

EDIT3: Problems solved. It works fine now. Go check it out!

Coming up next...

Yes, it's finally gonna happen. Ever since yesterday Sapopera part three is ready to go live. "SINCE YESTERDAY?!" Why is it still not on then?! Because of internet issues that is. Yesterday evening I put it on upload, only to find out later that night that somewhere halfway through the internet had been cut off and therefore there was nothing to watch on YouTube. And that's how THIS ENTIRE WEEK has been for me. One long chain of unexpected school stuff, camera batteries dying a very untimely death, eyes and/or other facial character properties detaching somewhere halfway a long shoot, etc. etc. Not to mention the fact that this time around I don't have any background characters handy to distract you guys with, so I'd have to find a way to keep todays dialog interesting without them. Which is also more of a hard job than it might seem.
Anyway.
As we are waiting for the upload to complete, why not having some fun already with some bonus pics?

Spoiler!!!

The set of today's episode. Yes, that's a closet. It was the only place in the house that had a street-like looking floor.

The set of last episode. Inside shots are SO much easier to take...

The Sheet of a Thousand Eyes and Mouths. Taken after cutting all the new expressions out that I needed for todays episode.

That's all I've got to show you at this moment, folks! Stay around for the actual episode!

Delay D:

Sorry folks. Due to some unexpected business that has come up this week, there'll be no new Sapopera episode today. Most likely it'll go live tomorrow evening.

Toodles!

Part Deux

I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry! I've been delayed! Anyway, it's still weekend, so you guys have nothing to complain about. Here it is: Sapopera - episode 2!

Why is it so late? Well, actually it's quite early, if you take into consideration that until last Thursday I didn't have any backgrounds to work with. You know, Caroline makes them, and as she also has non-Sapopera-related business to attend to, stuff arrived a tad later than usual. So here I was last Friday (and Saturday morning) photographing like mad, hoping to keep you guys somewhat happy. That's also why there haven't been any spoiler pics and whatnot this week, I was too busy actually making the episode to be able to show off with some bonus material. I'll make up for it, I promise!

Speaking of Caroline and her non-Sapopera-related business; this will be the last episode with backgrounds ENTIRELY made by her. She's got this idea for her Exam Project, and as she's gonna do it alone, she wants to spend as much time as she can spare on said project. Which means from now on I'm entirely on my own. *Sigh*

In my opinion it's a real loss, seeing as Caroline always gave the backgrounds that cute-ish touch that I simply... lack. Ah well, Exam Projects are far more important than free-for-all-to-watch-soapseries-about-fruit, so yeah. Then so be it. Anyway, Sapopera will continue to be aired weekly, at least for this month, so be sure to come back, and keep hitting those F5-buttons on the Saturdays!

Live and kicking!

So yeah!
Here's to celebrate that Sapopera is henceforth officially part of the interwebz! Check it out below!

There are a few things I´m unhappy about, like the very shocky end, but that´s probably just me being a bit sour after a week´s hard labour to get this off the ground. Ah well, one can see what´s happening and what´s happening looks pretty fun. I´m certainly gonna make a second episode, so see you all next weekend!

Yet another Sapopera update! (and some spoilers...)

'Cause stuff is getting real. And fast too! Today I spent like the whole afternoon photographing fruit. With some amazing results! See below for my current working place and a few spoiler pics. Oh, and be a dear and go and say hi to Caroline for the amazing background art she provided. She totally deserves it!

Isn't that the cutest banana ever?

Seems like everyone is in tears these days...

Wow, are you looking grumpy at your wedding!
Well that concludes it for today folks! See you this weekend when we go live!

Castpics!

Couldn't wait until the weekend, eh? Don't worry, neither could I. So here it is, two photos of the entire Sapopera cast! A real shame it was already dark when I finished... Ah well, you can see what's on them. The series will be shot at daytime, so no worries about weird yellow light and all.
The sheet of paper on the background of the second picture is one of the two sheets from which I've been cutting eyes and mouths. As you can see there's a lot of paper left. That will probably all be used for the many expressions of our cast. It's a soap after all.
The grapes really hate me, by the way. Whatever I try, those eyes and mouth's won't stay put! Am I glad they are among the main cast characters with the shortest roles...

Backgrounds!

Or something like that. Anyway, I promised sketches, so here they are!

It's still pretty crude and all, but it's only to give Caroline an idea of what to put on the backgrounds. Oh, yeah, she's my awesome background artist, didn't you know?
Next week I'll be making eyes and all for them characters. Which means I'll probably have a sweet cast-picture to show you guys by next weekend. Yay! At last stuff's getting real! Huzzah!

And there was a script...

Sapopera NewsFlash: I'm done writing the script. All the voice actors have been sent a copy and we'll start recording as soon as possible!
Yes, I know there's been some time between posts. I've had some trouble finding a company for my second term of internship, but all's fine now. More on that later.
Anyway, we were talking Sapopera. Production will start pretty soon. Before the weekend I'll put some sketches for the backgrounds on and soon after that the first cast picture will follow.
We sweaaarssssssssssssss...
~ Sorry. Shouldn't have watched The Two Towers Extended Edition earlier this week. Ever since it's been Gollum all over the place... ~
Stay tuned!

Work in progress: Sapopera

For those who think I've abandoned this blog: sorry, you're wrong. I just haven't made anything yet that makes it worth the bother for you to look at and read about. That doesn't mean I'm not doing anything at all, though! Right now I'm writing the script for my very own stop-motion soapopera 'Sapopera!'

It will be about a family of pears, a family of apples, a family of mandarins and a family of grapes and their adopted banana child and all their loves, hates, friendships, friendships that turn into love affairs, love affairs that turn into burning hatred and all that, and that all in five episodes of one and a half minute. Of course for all to view on YouTube.

It may be clear that the preparations for said series will take a while (especially since I have some internship-for-next-term-related business to attend to), so I'd like to ask for your patience. You shall be rewarded pretty soon.

Stay tuned!

Shig

Better known as a scharken here in Holland. It's a crossbreed between a sheep and a pig. Caroline and I made it up, during one of our many violently random conversations. She went even further though, and somehow managed to fit some Avatar into it as well.
Bacon, shoarma and wool, all from the same animal. Sounds like the perfect animal to me...

Anniversary!

Today, 25 years ago my parents got married, so I made above picture and sent it to them on a huge card. We went out bowling to celebrate their anniversary yesterday, hence the ball. On to the next 25!

New Showreel

My new showreel. Finally entirely consisting of work I'm more or less proud of.

The parts with the mandarins and the one part with the gnome are also available as E-cards at Kaartenhuis. Go take a look.

And so it begins...

Meet Seth. Seth the Shapeless. One of my more favorite creations, because of the fact he's so mysterious. Always hiding behind that mask. Where did he come from? What is he up to? And more importantly: who will be involved? No-one knows. It is certain though, that something is going to happen.
Now imagine such person holding a magical pen. What horrors or wonders might ensue? None can tell.

Strange words to open a new blog with? Not at all. This is exactly what you can expect of this place. It's going to be a representation of the Violent Act of Randomness that is me. I'll not make any promises regarding future content, because I never know for sure how long I can keep such promises before moving on to someting entirely different. Though it is certain that I'll be posting something. Will it be more illustrations? Animations? Comics? I can't tell for sure, all I can do is ask of you to stay tuned! You will be rewarded for your patience!
